The winners of Estonia’s largest business competition, ‘Best Estonian Companies 2023’, were announced today by the Estonian Employers’ Confederation, Estonian Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Estonian Business and Innovation Agency. The sustainable company of the year 2023 is A. Le Coq. The jury praised their dedication to sustainability and social responsibility.
Estonian Business and Innovation Agency together with The Estonian Employers’ Confederation selected the best in six categories and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in three categories. “Now the two separate competitions will become one, and the company of the year will be announced from these category winners on November 4,” said Sigrid Harjo, a member of the management board of Estonian Business and Innovation Agency. She added that the competition is tight and the category winners reflect the diversity of our business sector.
A. Le Coq has made green energy and resource efficiency one of its key focus areas and has made several large-scale green investments in recent years. Last year, the company opened a technological wastewater treatment complex, which will enable the beverage industry to produce biogas from its wastewater and reduce the load of discharged water into the city’s sewage system by up to 80%. In 2021 and 2023, solar parks were established for the logistics center, and in 2020, an Energy Track energy management system was implemented in production. As a smart solution, the beverage industry collects heat energy from the boiler house chimneys and redirects it for heating the production facilities.
In 2022, A. Le Coq introduced an electric truck for its inner-city deliveries in Tallinn and plans to expand its electric truck fleet by the end of 2023. According to the company’s CEO, Jaanus Vihandi, sustainability should be viewed more broadly than just through green investments: “Sustainability is the way A. Le Coq sees itself as a strong company in both the Estonian and global markets over the next two hundred years.” For A. Le Coq’s CEO, sustainability means contributing to environmentally friendly business activities while simultaneously enhancing the well-being of consumers, employees, and other stakeholders.
